GOVT PROMOTING CULTURE OF TOLERANCE, HARMONY: BHATTI
Islamabad: April 10, 2009

Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti Friday said the government is promoting the culture of tolerance, harmony and peaceful co‑existence in the country.

He said this while talking to a six-member delegation of Baha'i Community headed by Dr. Kishan Manocha, who called on him at his office.

“Promotion of inter-faith harmony is need of the time which can defuse the tendencies of violence, extremism and terrorism,” the Minister said.

Bhatti said that every religion preaches for peace, tolerance and humanity, and “we appreciate the contribution of Baha'i community for country.”

The Minister assured the delegation that the religious festival of Baha'i community “Eid-i-Rizwan” would be celebrated at official level.

Bhatti said the government is making best efforts for minorities’ welfare throughout the country under the present democratic government led by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

“The government is committed to uplift minorities to bring them at par with other sections of the society,” he added.

The Minister informed the delegation that the government would eliminate all sort of discriminatory laws and involve minorities into the mainstream.

“We can meet all the challenges confronted by the country including terrorism with the religious harmony and national unity,” he added.

The Minister said the government is fulfilling the responsibility of protecting the worship places of minorities in the country.

Dr. Kishan appreciated the efforts of the government to safeguard the interest and rights of the minorities’ community in the country.

He extended his full cooperation to the government to play an

effective role in the progress and prosperity of the country.

The delegation comprised, Dr. Kishan Manocha, Seema Neik Akhtar, Shehnaz Qaimi, Mr. Kamran, Rameen Nabeelzada and Prof. Mehrdad.
